Wisconsin Sheriff Special XX Issued by the Governor XX 22 NOS License Plate

Description

This is the VERY RARE Sheriff’s XX plate originally issued in 1968 until the early 1970’s. During that era, the Governor of Wisconsin issued the XX plates to each Sheriff of Wisconsin’s 72 counties for their personal use which was to discern them from the civilian population.
This XX plate was acquired from Harvey Rowe and his renowned license plate collection. Harvey was the son of longtime Door County Sheriff Hallie Rowe. This XX22 Governor issued Sheriff plate is in like new condition. It doesn’t appear to have been ever used. There are two year stickers in the right hand corner which indicates it was annually renewed by the Sheriff until 1972.
I have not seen another one like it in many years. I would wager there is not another one in existence in this condition. The colors remain bright and glossy on the front with only the slightest bit of rust appearing on the back of this original, un-reconditioned plate.
This is a true museum quality example of a very rare XX issue which is 50 years old.
