Listed items will not be marked down during the listing duration. York Rose was the EHH Smith 1910 contribution to the turn of the century demand for many rose motif patterns. It is a simple, sweet pattern with a beaded edge and a bouquet of roses in bloom. The butter spreaders offered here have the b
mark. This pattern is also found with the Rockford Co. mark, and a cursive L. The flat butter knife has the cursive L mark. The butter spreader is a silver piece shaped like a paddle; it is used to spread butter on rolls and veggies. It goes on the plate called the bread & butter plate. Butter is served by the master butter onto the plate, and then is used as needed. The butter spreader never touches the tabletop, it stays on the b&b plate and never spreads butter onto the tablecloth. Butter spreaders are also very handy for cheese spreads. The 5 butter spreaders offered here measure about 6”, and the flat butter knife measures about 7 1/4".  These are not pieces of new silver.  They show the patina of as much as 110 years of careful use.  There are the light scratches which constitute normal patina.  There is no monogram.  Silver is softly lustrous.  There is no silver loss on the butter spreaders; the flat butter knife has some plate loss on the heel and on the edges of the blade, all consistent with age and reasonable use.  The pattern is crisp and clear. These pieces come in a flannel wrapper which helps prevent tarnish. I polish all silver before listing on eBay. Please email with any questions before bidding.
